TEACHING EXPERIENCE

 

Substitute Teacher, Kent School District, Kent, WA. November 2010-Present. Provide instruction to students (as directed by the instructor’s lesson plans) including assessment, instruction, and evaluation of students in the absence of the regular teacher. 

 

Instructional Coach, One-to-One Initiative, Meeker Middle School, Kent, WA. August 2008-February 2009. Provided instructional leadership to support staff members and students in the integration of technology and curriculum at the middle school level for implementing the One-to-One Laptop Initiative. Implemented coaching strategies, led staff development, and student and parent orientations, served at site-based coordinator, prepared training documentation, and served on special projects and district committees.

 

Librarian. Meeker Middle School, Kent, WA. Fall 2006- Spring 2008. Librarian duties included collection development, reading incentive programs, creating an appealing environment, and working with staff and students in finding resources.

 

Instructional Technology Specialist, Meeker Middle School, Kent, WA. Fall 2003- Spring 2008. Instructional Technology Specialist responsibilities included; maintaining the school web page, Basmati site administrator, staff development, working with colleagues on curriculum and technology integration, and co-planning and teaching cross curricular.

 

Art Teacher, Meeker Middle School, Kent, WA. Fall 2001 – Spring 2006. Planned and taught Art 1, 2, 3, 4, Survey, Exploratory Art courses, and Annual advisor for five years.  Art projects had focus on the Elements of Art and Principles of Design, with emphasis on techniques, craftsmanship, aesthetic design and overall appeal. Participated in Intel’s Teach to the Future grant. Grant included 40 clock hours of curriculum planning with technology.

 

Language Arts, Meeker Middle School, Kent, WA. Fall 2001-Spring 2002. Planned and taught 8th grade Language Arts for one year.

 

Teacher, Meridian Elementary, Kent, WA. Fall 1998 – Spring 2001. Planned and taught units in all subjects pertaining to 3rd grade curriculum. I participated in Windows to the World computer grant and completed forty clock hours of technology classes to satisfy grant requirements. Also, was involved in FutureKids Technology pilot, January 2000 – June 2001. Created, implemented and taught integrated units using technology.

 

Teacher, Kentridge High School, Kent, WA. Fall 1997-Spring 1998. Planned and taught Ceramics, Sculpture, and Design to 9th through 12th graders. Units employed the use of basic design fundamentals as they pertain to the three-dimensional areas of pottery, sculpture, textiles, and other related areas were taught, in addition to ceramic techniques of coil, slab, and wheel throwing.

 

Teacher, Sylvan Learning Center, Bellevue and Kent, WA. Fall 1997 – 1999. Guided students in Beginning and Academic Reading, Basic Math, CLEAR Writing, Quick Pace, and homework support.

 

Teacher, Dairyland Elementary School, Chowchilla, CA. Fall 1993 – Spring 1997. Planned and taught units in all subjects pertaining to a combined curriculum of 3rd / 4th grade for three years and 5th / 6th grade for one year. Director of 5th / 6th grade girls physical education department, led students in science fairs, poetry competitions, musical productions and skits. In charge of set design for school plays. Developed and implemented Art G.A.T.E. program, for students gifted and talented in the arts. Assisted students in art competitions. Grades 3 through 8.

 

Naturalist Intern, Jack L. Boyd Outdoor School, Fish Camp, CA. Fall 1992.  I led environmental education classes for 3rd through 12th graders, such as Wilderness Ethics, Astronomy, Night Hike, Ropes and Initiatives, Miwok Indians, Giant Sequoia: Big Trees, and Orientation Hikes.

 

INTERESTS & ACTIVITIES

 

Dragon Boat Paddling: Committee member and director of training for Kent Lions Club, Cornucopia Dragon Boat races, on Lake Meridian, in Kent, WA. As part of the Kent Dragon Boat Association, I was the captain and coach of the youth team, Akujiki Dragons, and co-coach of the adult mixed paddling team, Dragin Tails.
